Dismantling of KRONES bottling line for Acqua Smeraldina, in Sardinia
BBM Service successfully completed a complex project involving the dismantling and relocation of a bottling plant. Specifically, we transferred the machinery from Sardinia to our headquarters in Lenna. The work involved KRONES machines, air conveyors, and an SMI WP case packer. As a result, we ensured precision, safety, and compliance with the deadlines agreed with the customer.
Dismantling background
Acqua Smeraldina was founded in 1985, when Sardinian entrepreneur Giovanni Maria Solinas established A.L.B. S.p.A. and launched the famous brand. Since then, the company has introduced new bottle formats, including the iconic glass bottle in 2002, and expanded distribution nationwide. More recently, it has invested in eco-sustainable projects and the use of recycled plastic. In this way, it shows its commitment to innovation and the environment.
The main plant is located in Tempio Pausania, in Gallura, Sardinia. The water comes from a spring far from urban centers. The need to dismantle the plant arose from the desire to install a new bottling line. For this reason, Acqua Smeraldina contacted BBM Packaging, looking for a reliable partner to dismantle, transport, and safely relocate the machinery.
Dismantling activities carried out by BBM Service
The project required high-level technical, logistical, and organizational skills. The plant included three main KRONES machines and one additional machine: the blow molder, air conveyors, filler, labeler, and SMI WP case packer. BBM Service managed every phase with great attention to detail and safety.
• Inspection and planning: Our technicians carried out a preliminary site inspection and created a Dismantling Line program. They numbered the machines with dedicated labels, photographed every element, and prepared detailed packing lists. In this way, every subsequent phase proceeded smoothly.
• Technical dismantling: The BBM team cataloged and dismantled the machines with the support of the customer’s operators. The PET line was dismantled by a team of 6 BBM technicians and 3 Smeraldina operators in one week. As a result, the project fully respected the planned schedule.
• Logistics management and transport: BBM coordinated exceptional transports with specialized partners for oversized loads. Standard transports were handled by local carriers. We packed the machines in dedicated crates, ensuring safety and backup of the programs. In addition, we monitored every phase of the journey to guarantee integrity and safety.
• Waste disposal: All waste materials were disposed of according to the CER code, in compliance with environmental regulations. Thus, the project also met sustainability requirements.
The project was completed in about one week.
The plus for the customer: collection of used machinery
BBM Packaging offers a service for collecting and enhancing used machines. The Acqua Smeraldina machines, still operational, were not scrapped. On the contrary, we transferred them to our plant in Lenna, where the technical team refurbished them and made them ready for new use.
BBM evaluates every decommissioned machine and collects those with commercial potential. In this way, each machine is given a new life in an effective and sustainable way.
This turnkey service reduces waste, optimizes resources, and contributes to a more eco-friendly supply chain. As a result, the customer gains efficiency, safety, and added value without worrying about disposal or life-cycle management of the machines.
The choice of BBM Service stems from trust in our technical expertise and our ability to meet deadlines. In addition, our team guarantees safety and precision at every stage.
We thank the entire Acqua Smeraldina team for the trust and cooperation shown during the project.
I appreciated the professionalism with which the technicians carried out the work, deadlines respected and excellent coordination. I must congratulate you.
