How BBM achieved significant energy savings through the installation of solar panels
The transition toward sustainable production models is no longer just an ethical choice, but a fundamental requirement for competitiveness. The concept of corporate energy efficiency is now the core around which the development strategies of the most forward-thinking companies revolve—those able to combine operational performance with the protection of natural resources. The evolution of the strategy: from San Pellegrino to Lenna
In the past, the company had already demonstrated a pioneering vision by installing a photovoltaic system at the San Pellegrino site. This infrastructure was a strategic asset that made it possible to self-consume 85% of the energy produced, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and stabilizing operating costs.
However, the success of San Pellegrino was only the starting point. In 2024, BBM decided to raise the bar even higher, extending its culture of sustainability to the Lenna site as well. Here, the installation of a high-efficiency photovoltaic hub was completed—a true jewel of energy engineering. With an 80 kW photovoltaic field, the structure is now able to produce the electricity used by almost the entire production site.
The BlackSun system and Sunpower modules
The excellence of a system is not measured only by its nominal power, but by the quality of its components and the care taken in architectural integration. For the Lenna site, BBM chose the best technology available on the market, relying on internationally renowned partners.
The interface between the brand-new solar panels and the roof covering was created using the “BlackSun” mounting system. This system, made in Baraclit, represents a significant innovation in the field of industrial construction. Made of eco-friendly fiber cement, it is equipped with metal structures designed to avoid any perforation of the existing roof layer. This choice ensures the long-term structural integrity of the building.
The beating heart of the system is made up of Sunpower Performance 6 COM BF modules. Each module has a power output of 500 Wp and is characterized by outstanding efficiency. Thanks to this technology, BBM managed to use fewer panels and therefore occupy less surface area on the roof, maximizing output per square meter. From an energy efficiency perspective, space optimization is a key factor that leaves room for future installations.
Beyond geographical limits: a choice of resilience
Investing in photovoltaics in an area like Lenna might seem, to an inexperienced eye, like a challenge against nature. The area is in fact notoriously poorly exposed to sunlight, especially in the critical months from November to February. Despite this, the company chose to invest with conviction in a form of green energy. The underlying logic is that of energy resilience: ensuring constant economic and environmental savings throughout the rest of the year, more than compensating for periods of lower solar radiation. This decision shows that industrial sustainability should not be bound only to ideal conditions, but must be the result of strategic planning that looks at the overall annual balance.
2025 Results: the numbers behind the transformation
The data collected up to 2025 speak clearly and certify the success of this policy. These are no longer just projections, but tangible results that positively affect both the company’s financial performance and the surrounding environment.
In 2025 BBM has recorded:
- 35 tons of CO2 saved;
- A 20% reduction in energy purchases from the national grid, a sign of growing energy independence;
- 25% of total company electricity needs now come directly from the photovoltaic system.
To date, BBM can boast:
- 30 tons of standard coal saved: energy that was not produced by burning polluting fossil fuels.
- 35 tons of CO2 not emitted, actively contributing to the fight against global warming.
The overall environmental benefits are even more impressive when considering the company’s entire green operation:
- 50.76 tons of total standard coal savings.
- 60.28 tons of CO2 avoided in the atmosphere.
- The equivalent of 83 trees planted, a figure that makes the technological effort both visible and poetic.
In addition, for the share of energy still drawn from the grid, BBM has made a clear choice: the purchase of 100% Green electricity, ensuring that every single watt used in production processes comes from certified renewable sources.
Strategies for the 2026–2027 biennium
The 2026–2027 biennium will see a further acceleration of resource optimization programs. This means not only maintaining the standards achieved, but implementing new solutions to reduce electricity purchases from the grid by an additional 20%.
Energy saving will thus become a closed cycle, where innovation fuels production and production generates value without taking resources away from the future.
