The project: PET line format change for square bottle
An important client contacted us to support them in a PET line format change dedicated to a square bottle. The goal was to allow the line to handle both the current 2000 ml bottle and the new 1000 ml and 1500 ml formats, ensuring flexibility and speed without interrupting production.
To achieve this, we developed:
- A new format change on the air conveyors for bottle handling;
- The format change on the bottle transport conveyors;
- The upgrade of the SMI SK 602F shrink wrapper to efficiently manage the different formats.
Innovation: pantograph system for format change
One of the most innovative aspects of the project was the introduction of a pantograph system at the entrance of the shrink wrapper. This device allows a simultaneous and identical adjustment of all guides in the system, making the format change much faster and more precise.
In the past, each guide was adjusted manually, one at a time. Today, thanks to the pantograph, the operator sets the correct measurement using a simple “dial” and moves the system to the desired position in a maximum of 30 seconds. This represents a huge time saving compared to before.
Results achieved in record time
We completed the entire project in just two months without ever stopping the line. Thanks to the new system:
